RMSRO Clinics and Updates
All Classroom clinics will be held in the fall.
2026 – 2027 Season
Registration for all clinics (live or virtual) will be conducted through RunSignUp.com at:
https://runsignup.com/TicketEvent/RMSROClinics2026 Register as soon as possible as materials for each clinic will be shared electronically via your correctly entered email address.
The credit card cost for the full day(s) “live” clinics is $25.00 and for the virtual clinics is $15.00.
You are required to attend an Update and Review (CE) every year. Don’t let your Alpine Official Certifications lapse.
The RMSRO Annual Membership Meeting will be conducted at 9:00 AM on Saturday, 11/07/26 in a hybrid format, both virtual and live.
All live clinics will be held at the Leadville Campus of Colorado Mountain College, 901 US HWY 24, Leadville, CO 80461 in the New Discovery(ND) Building or the Climax Molybdenum(CM) building.
Saturday, 11/7 – Technical Delegate (TD) Workshop: 10:00 AM until the end of topics. This workshop is required annually for all RMSRO Technical Delegates.
Thursday, 11/12 – CE from 6:30 PM until complete (Open to all, but primarily for live clinic instructors unable to make the TD Workshop on 11/07.
Saturday 11/14 and Sunday 11/15 all day
Race Administration and using race result software – Split Second (RRS -SS)
Download the SplitSecond Software at splitsecond.com. Please review the hardware requirements and have it loaded onto the PC/Mac you will be using for your duties.
Saturday 11/14 and Sunday, 11/15 – Timing & Calculations Basic (TC1): starting at 9:00 AM. Complete the Study
Guide practice problems prior to the clinic for a lively discussion.
Saturday, 11/14 – Chief of Race (CR): starting at 9:00 AM.
Sunday, 11/15 – Referee (RF) and Jury Advisor (JA): starting at 9:00 AM. All participants must complete the on-line Competition Officials (CO) quiz and submit a paper copy to the instructors, or electronically to ken.gay@hotmail.com prior to the clinic start.
Thursday, 11/19 – CE from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM
Monday, 11/23 – RA Workshop from 6:30 PM until complete. This workshop is required for all RAs.
Tuesday, 11/24 – CE from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM
Tueday, 12/15 – CE from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM
Wednesday, 12/16 – CE from 9 AM until noon
Thursday, 12/17 – CE from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM
New officials (without any certifications) must take the COMPETITION OFFICIAL online quiz prior to attending an all day or two evening certification clinic.

Live Clinic registration starts at 8:15. Clinics start at 9:00 AM. Bring a printed copy of the current Study Guide. The current season Alpine Competition Guide and Study Material for all classes will be available at rmsro.org
Electronic devices may be used to search through official U.S. Ski & Snowboard and FIS documents while taking examinations. Electronic devices and AI tools, however, may not be used to conduct general Internet searches, research external sources, or obtain answers beyond the content of the official rule documents while taking examinations. Calculators may be used to perform any required calculations.
Please use only current year materials. Bring either a current Comp Guide or current ICR to all–day clinics.
CLINIC FEE: On site payment with cash or check is accepted with an additional $10 fee.
Full day clinics cost $20.00 (Includes both portions of the RA clinic)
Continuing Education (1/2 day) clinics cost $10.00
If any clinic does not have 6 people registered five days prior to the event, it will be cancelled.
Certification Levels
The Alpine Officials Working Group has reviewed and modified the criteria for Alpine Officials advancement. The Certification Matrix outlines the steps necessary to advance as an Alpine Official. The criteria is competency based and can be found below.
U.S. Ski & Snowboard Alpine Officials who are certified as Technical Delegate, Referee, Jury Adviser, Chief of Race, Chief of Course, Race Administration and Timing and Calculations are required to attend an update/clinic at least every two years to maintain certification.
- If an official has missed an update for two years, he or she may be reinstated to the previous level by attending a recognized update.
- If an official has missed an update for three or more years, he or she may be reinstated by passing the appropriate examination, i.e. Level 1 or 2 must pass the Level 1 exam, Level 3 or 4 must pass the level 3 exam.
- An official may not violate the update rule for the second time and maintain certification.
CE – Continuing Education for all officials -(update for RF, CC, CR, JA, RA, TC)
CO – Competition Official. This clinic and certification is required prior to any specialty clinic and other certifications. This clinic is available ONLINE ONLY, follow instructions posted near the top of this page.
CE – Continuing Education. This is the update clinic that is at minimum required for every official, at least every two years. No Exam, credit is given by attendance.
RF, TC, RA, CR, CC, JA – Specialty Clinics with exams that offer certification in the specialty area. Certification in specialty area is required for officiating in that capacity at an event. Taking one of these clinics also satisfies the continuing education requirement in Rocky Mountain Division. CO Clinic is prerequisite for ALL SKILL CLINICS
TD Workshop – Continuing education with additional focus on jury issues offered by RMSRO each fall. This clinic also satisfies the continuing education requirement as does the FIS TD update also offered in the fall.To move beyond level 1 in any specialty area officials must fulfill all requirements as detailed in the officials certification guidlines
